City ECD director warns applicants about email payment scams after commission meeting

Near the end of the first part of the meeting, ECD director Mishi alerted applicants and attendees that the city has observed scam attempts in which an email purporting to be from the city asks applicants to wire money as the final step to obtain approvals. "We will never ask you to wire money," Mishi said, urging anyone who receives a solicitation to call the city to verify the invoice.
Mishi said staff have contacted the police department and IT staff about the scams and that legitimate payments for permit services should be made through FMPS, the permit portal, or in person at ECD. He also posted an alternate Zoom link when the meeting experienced an imminent disconnection and offered to help applicants verify invoices.
