Antioch board approves continued due diligence on alternate veterans memorial site

The Village of Antioch Board of Trustees on Aug. 12 voted to continue due diligence on an alternate site for the village veterans memorial, after staff said third‑party funds and in‑kind engineering support had been secured.
"We've already started to receive the in kind donations, from HR Green for engineering services," staff told the board, and land surveying and topography work have begun. Staff said soil borings and ground‑penetrating radar would follow if the board confirmed the evaluation would continue. Officials expect to return to the board with a final design and estimated construction cost in about 30 to 45 days.
Trustees discussed process and clarified that prior board approval still exists for the previously approved site across from Secoy Creek Park; the current action was limited to studying an alternate (tank/TOF) site and reporting back. The village attorney advised trustees that the vote under consideration was to continue due diligence, not to approve construction or relocation.
The motion to continue the evaluation passed on roll call. Staff said that, if the board decides to move forward after receiving the design and cost estimate, a subsequent resolution would be placed on the agenda to authorize the final location and a groundbreaking date. The board set a target to review the materials at the Aug. 26 meeting.
