Filmmaker Friday grows into a monthly hub for creatives, expands to Chicago

Parker Foster, CEO and founder of Filmmaker Friday, told a local interview program that he created the monthly event series to rebuild the sort of grassroots creative community he had as a skateboarder. "I took it upon myself to meet with two new people every single day for a month when I moved here just to connect with filmmakers," Foster said, describing how the series began after he moved to New York in 2019.
Foster said the first Filmmaker Friday gatherings drew "10 to 12 people" but have since expanded to "150 to 200 people every single month," serving as a recurring space where filmmakers meet, collaborate and share work. He said the series now hosts separate monthly events in New York and Chicago; New York shows take place at the McCarren Park House in Brooklyn, while Chicago venues vary. Foster announced the next New York event will be July 31. "It's this infectious feeling that you don't even wanna leave because it just feels so good to be around so many other creative people," he said.
