Tubbs said 35 of 72 written submissions (48%) supported naming the school for Stephanie A. Bernard. Thirteen submissions (18%) supported a geographic or nonperson name (examples mentioned: Capitol View, DeJope, Buckeye). Five submissions (7%) favored Jeffrey Clay Erlanger; four (6%) opposed renaming and preferred keeping the name Albion. Additional smaller counts supported Gaylord Nelson, Freddie Mayfield, Ada Deer and Lucia Núñez, and three write-ins suggested names outside the published shortlist.
Tubbs also summarized themes found across the written comments: supporters of Bernard emphasized her decades of service and impact on literacy; proponents of geographic names cited long-term risk of controversies tied to naming schools for individuals; other submissions highlighted representation and specific community ties for their preferred individuals.
