Board voices worry over grant instability as ESSER funding sunsets

Board member Stan Aisbork said he was “really concerned” about the instability and shifting classification of grants, noting situations where a grant agreement calls funding state money but the drawdown is federal, which can complicate budgets and compliance. “I'm really concerned now with...the stuff going on with federal grants and state grants,” Stan said, urging caution about beginning projects that could be jeopardized if funding terms change.
Corey told trustees that ESSER funding will be gone in the 2024–25 fiscal year and that districts that used those dollars for staff and projects will need plans to fill resulting gaps. He said the classification issue (state-labeled agreements that are federal drawdowns) required reclassifying revenue by function but did not change total revenue recorded by the district.
