Meridian council approves FY2026 amended budget, tentatively publishes FY2027 proposal and approves foregone collection

Third, council declared its intent to collect foregone property tax for fiscal year 2027 in the amount of $536,339. Councilman Gabbner announced he would vote against the foregone declaration, urging the council to re-examine potential reductions in the budget. The motion to declare the foregone collection passed on roll call with 4 ayes and 1 nay. The council noted the tentative publishing step allows for public hearings and additional adjustments before final adoption.
Staff (Jenny) framed the actions as part of the formal budget development process; item 2 was explicitly a publication step ahead of a public hearing. Council did not adopt the final FY2027 budget at this meeting; the public hearing and final vote are scheduled for August as part of the budget process.
