Students honored; district highlights community-service and Thanksgiving efforts

Student representatives from High School East, North and South presented school news, recent achievements and upcoming events. Ryan Makom (High School East) outlined the Kindness Campaign and athletic milestones; Gabriela Kostova (High School North) described a joint NHS/Student Council food drive and recent football success; Sofia Sitta (High School South) offered condolences for community losses and celebrated theatrical and athletic accomplishments.
The board and staff also recognized multiple students and teams — National Merit commended students were named, and championship teams were celebrated. Board members described a community Thanksgiving distribution taking place at the Presbyterian Church on Hooper Avenue; one board member said the district expected to give away about 1,000 turkeys and invited volunteers to help on Friday morning.
"As the spirit at East stays high, the Raiders continue to strive for greatness every day," student representative Ryan Makom said. The board closed the awards portion of the agenda and thanked students, coaches and staff for their efforts.
