Michael Wilson introduced the FFA students and new ag teacher Mackenzie Shattuck and turned the floor over to student officers to summarize the chapter's year. "We started off the year with our first event, Central Washington State Fair, ... and we took 1st place in class 1 swine," a student reported, listing team and individual placements across livestock and judging events.
Students also described leadership and career development events (CDEs and LDEs), district conferences, and state placements in domains including horse evaluation, vet science, soil evaluation and public speaking. Shattuck and Wilson told the board the chapter won a chapter connect grant that will send members to Indianapolis for national convention, a chapter grant to buy materials for the program, and a Pasco Chamber award earmarked for a new horticulture program. "This will keep us up and going and expanding our opportunities for our members," a student said.
Board members asked about chapter size after the presentation; students said the chapter currently has about 30 members with hopes to grow to roughly 60 next year. The board commended the chapter for competitive results and community engagement and encouraged continued teacher and community support.
