The superintendent asked the board to form a committee to examine how Echo and peer small districts fund travel expenses for district and state athletic events, including transportation, hotels and small stipends for students.
She described past practice—district-paid transportation and hotels for district/state advancement with modest per-student spending money—and said other districts use booster/sponsor-board funds or different formulas. “Because I think at times there’s been some misconceptions of how some of that’s funded... I want us to make sure that we’re treating... consistently,” the superintendent said. Board members asked clarifying questions about whether a per-sport or per-student approach is desired and offered to join the committee. The superintendent said she will send surveys to peer districts, assemble external perspectives and bring recommendations back to the board for discussion.
