The Bethel Board of Selectmen voted on July 21 to hold a special town meeting on August 19, 2026, at 7 p.m. in the Bethel Middle School Auditorium to consider a recommended purchase of open space on Confish Hill Road and associated funding.
"I move that we hold a special town meeting on 08/19/2026 to consider and take action ... to fund the amount not to exceed $3,020,000 for the purchase of the premises on Confish Hill Road," the chair said when making the motion. The chair restated the motion’s financial breakdown on the record, saying the purchase amount would be $3,000,000 with $20,000 in closing costs. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The chair read the parcel and tax identifiers on the record and said the board of finance has signed off on the recommendation. The special town meeting will also set the date and time for a townwide machine vote pursuant to the charter and applicable statutes. No final purchase authorization was made at the selectmen’s meeting; the public will vote at the special town meeting.
