Perry firefighters earn state certifications; Junior Fire Academy praised by students

Retired Chief Singletary described the certification program and presented awards to firefighters including Nadad Jean Julian and Captain Gerald Michael. Council congratulated the recipients.
Chief Wheeler then presented a video and remarks on the recent Junior Fire Academy for 7th–8th graders. Students described hands‑on activities—CPR training, using hoses, ladder work and a search‑and‑rescue drill—and several students said the ladder exercise and extinguishing fires were highlights. One student said, "My favorite thing about the Fire Academy is being able to learn new things and have fun and hang out with people," and others recommended the program to their friends.
City officials thanked instructors and noted the program can be a recruitment pipeline for future employment with the department.
