Council approves downtown event permits including Perry Methodist 200th and Dogwood Dash 5K

Perry City Council unanimously approved three special‑event applications July 21: Perry Methodist Church’s 200th anniversary celebration on Aug. 27, 2026 (requested street closures on the 1000 block of Carroll Street and Meeting Street at Main), the Georgia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (GACCE) board conference dinner on Nov. 5, 2026 (requested closure of the 900 block of Carroll Street; staff estimated roughly 150 attendees), and the Dogwood Dash 5K scheduled for April 2027 following the traditional downtown route and expected to include about 600 participants.
Miss Hirt (speaker 14) told council that reviewing departments had no objections and that event applicants would provide restrooms, trash service and coordinate police and fire services for safety and traffic control. Council moved to approve each application; each motion passed unanimously and staff recommended permitting with the conditions noted in the application packets.
The Dogwood Dash will require temporary road closures along the specified route (Beckham Circle, Forest Hill Road, Hillcrest Avenue, Tolleson Street, Woodland Drive, Duncan Avenue, Massey Lane, Gilmer Street, and a section of Ball Street). The Chamber will coordinate traffic control and signage with the Perry Police Department.
