District awarded SRO grant to contract a rotating school resource officer

In the meeting's closing item, the superintendent announced the district had been awarded an Idaho State School Resource Officer grant that will fund contracting an officer through the Idaho County Sheriff's Office. "We have been awarded it's about $87,000 a year for 3 years to contract with Idaho County Sheriff's Office and officer to work as a school resource officer in all 5 buildings in the district," the superintendent said.
The award will pay for a rotating SRO whose schedule would vary so students would not know exactly which days the officer was present; the sheriff's office will be responsible for hiring. The grant also includes funding allowing the officer to contribute to community training (for example, fentanyl awareness) during the year. Trustees reacted positively and staff said they would coordinate hiring with the sheriff's office and present a deployment plan for board informational purposes.
