Superintendent (speaker 3) told the board that the Idaho County Sheriff's Office has hired Officer Watkins to serve as the district's school resource officer. "She has been hired and is in uniform and has visited some of the schools already and will begin visiting schools more," the superintendent said, adding that Watkins is undergoing ride-along training and will receive additional post-training over the summer.
The superintendent emphasized the SRO's role as building relationships with students and supporting safety education such as drug awareness and parking-lot safety, while noting the district is drafting a job description because it historically has not had a dedicated SRO position. No formal change to policy was approved at this meeting; the board received the update as information.
