Superintendent outlines summer programs; district running extended-year and enrichment offerings

Superintendent Mary told the board on July 22 that Ossining Union Free School District summer programs are in full swing, including an elementary summer learning program, an extended-year program with more than 300 students, a Freshman Summer Academy, a college-essay workshop at the high school, and multiple enrichment offerings.
"We have over 300 students involved in our extended year program," Mary said, describing the breadth of offerings. She listed an athletics slate (soccer, basketball, wrestling, flag football, track and field, volleyball), enrichment camps, and a podcast camp beginning Aug. 4. Mary also highlighted special partnerships and programs, including Girls Inc. (beginning July 27) and My Brother's Keeper Camp (also beginning July 27), and noted the AMD is sponsoring a summer learning program.
Mary announced the district will run a Regents preparation program that starts Aug. 10 for students taking the Regents on Aug. 18 and 19, and a New York Year Up for Success session for the class of 2028 on Aug. 3. She also described supports for nutrition and literacy during the summer: a meal distribution program with satellite sites at Snowden House Apartments, Nelson Park and the public library, and a summer reading buddies program for students entering grades 1'6 at Claremont, Fridays through July into Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Board members did not request additional detail on program funding or staffing during the meeting. For operational details (eligibility, enrollment procedures, or funding sources), the district publishes program guidance and registration materials outside the July 22 public meeting.
