Plan would target housing preservation, homelessness prevention and downtown revitalization with HUD funds

Elijah Romulus walked through the plan's priority goals, saying the city will focus on preserving existing housing stock, preventing homelessness, stabilizing at-risk neighborhoods, increasing the supply of affordable housing, and promoting economic development and services that support self-sufficiency.
"Part of the goals and objectives, is to preserve the existing housing stock, looking for into homeless prevention...increase supply of affordable housing, and to promote economic development as well as promote services that enhance self sufficiency," Romulus said. He also described project categories including public facilities (parks, playgrounds, building renovations), housing activities (homeownership support, affordable rental units, homeowner assistance), public services for nonprofits, and planning/administration costs.
Romulus said some funding is proposed for economic development allocations such as storefront and façade improvements aimed at downtown revitalization and transit-oriented development near MBTA stations in the downtown and Campello areas.
