Residents urge strict rules on non-owner short-term rentals, citing neighborhood harm

"For those who have never lived next to a short term rental, the disruption can seem like a minor inconvenience," the resident said. "Living next to an STR isn't just about loud parties. In reality, it is a slow, grinding loss of the right to feel at home in your own house." The commenter urged the council to prioritize the community over commercial interests and warned that tourism tax revenue cannot restore neighborhood social capital once it has been spent.
The presiding officer reminded speakers that the council had continued the STR ordinance discussion to a future meeting and that comments tonight would register citizen concerns but not add to the formal record for the ordinance until the item returns to the agenda in early February. The STR permit/renewal report presented later in the meeting showed 27 active STR renewals for the period cited by staff.
