Resident asks whether proposed truck-stop will allow overnight parking; chamber announces candidate forums

At public comment a resident asked whether the planned fuel-center would permit overnight truck parking and reported about nine dying trees at the roundhouse; the Evanston Chamber announced two candidate forums on July 9 and July 16 at the middle school.
During public participation resident Kathy Cook (912 Main) asked council staff whether the proposed fuel-center would allow overnight truck parking or operate more like a typical gas station. "So when I think of a truck truck stop, they stop and they sleep overnight. This is just like a gas station. Right?" Cook asked; the mayor and staff responded that the business as proposed is a convenience-type facility and that overnight parking was not expected as part of the initial operating plan.
Cook also asked the council to check on approximately nine trees that appear to be dying at the roundhouse area and whether they are being watered; the mayor said staff would look into the matter. The public comment period included thanks to staff for work on the vaping ordinance project.
Separately, Tammy Stavely of the Evanston Chamber of Commerce announced two candidate forums ahead of elections: July 9 at 5 p.m. in the Evanston Middle School Auditorium for state and county candidates and July 16 at 5 p.m. for city/municipal candidates. The council acknowledged both announcements and thanked the Chamber.
The mayor closed public participation and the council moved to adjourn later in the evening.
