Superintendent proposes facility-use fee review and closing middle-school access for morning safety

The superintendent told the board the district can no longer afford to allow public use of facilities at a nominal fee and proposed revisiting rental forms and fees to incorporate custodial, IT and opening/closing costs. He asked the facilities manager to work with finance and bring options to a February meeting.
Separately, after a paraprofessional was struck by a car at the middle school, the superintendent proposed closing a public-access drive at 7:30 a.m. and reopening later (closed until about 3:00 p.m. with a lunch opening window). "We're going to shut down public access 7:30 in the morning and not open it again until later that morning," he said, and added that the district would provide at least two weeks' notice to the public and consult with the city and Deputy Clifford to ensure ADA compliance.
Board members emphasized clear signage and public communication. The superintendent said staff parking before 7:30 a.m. would still be available and noted alternatives on both sides of the school for drop-off and handicap access will be addressed.
