Commissioners and the city’s legal counsel told applicants and the public on July 21 that a new short-term rental ordinance will go into effect the coming Monday and will change local processing of STR applications. Legal counsel stated plainly at the meeting, “The new ordinance goes in effect Monday,” and explained that the commission would no longer have jurisdiction to table pending applications once the ordinance is in effect.
City Attorney advised that under the forthcoming rules applicants must follow the administrative process described in the new ordinance and that licenses would need to be active to count toward block limits; if a property is not actively rented as an STR, the license could be revoked under the new implementation approach. Commissioners relied on that timing when deciding some immediate applications.
The ordinance text and citation were not provided at the hearing; staff said applicants who are denied may reapply immediately through the administrative process once it is available.
