Reed Fagel, the district's operations and transportation director, briefed the board on facilities work completed and outstanding over the last 90 days. "In the last 90 days our team was able to complete 263 work orders that were turned in with a backlog of about 92 that are still standing," he said, and described an average daily flow of six to seven new work orders.
Fagel emphasized preventive maintenance on HVAC and plumbing to catch problems early. He described recent costly failures: several 20-year-old fan motors and a scroll compressor on a walk-in freezer. He also noted weather-related issues revealed during a rainy winter (drains and roof seals) and noted progress on micro-finishes for gym floors to extend their life.
Fagel said transportation consolidation reduced bus runs but some routes are very full; he also noted mechanics had to replace several bus batteries during cooler weather. He proposed evaluating mower/replacement options, including an automated 'robo mower,' and will bring cost details to the board for future consideration.
