The Riverdale City Council approved a four‑year employment contract for the city administrator on July 21 after untableing the item and incorporating previously directed edits. Staff said the contract reverted to the prior form with agreed changes to compensation, car allowance and COLA and that a full rewrite could be prepared later.
Councilor Arnold expressed reservations about concentrating administrative and legal duties in one person and called the contract "too much money for 1 person," while Councilor Hansen and others urged moving forward. The council voted 4 in favor and 1 opposed to approve the contract. Staff said they will consider drafting a new template contract for future administrators and can revisit terms with 60 days' notice if council requests.
