Siuslaw to consolidate music staff; elementary music not restored under current budget

Administrators told the committee the district will not restore elementary music under the current budget and that, with enrollment below 100 for grades 6–12, the district cannot sustain two full-time music positions. "We can't afford 2 full time staff," staff said, adding that the district would consolidate instrumental and vocal music under one full-time position covering middle and high school.
Parents and committee members warned the lack of elementary music could hurt long-term participation and students' readiness for band and choir later. Staff acknowledged the constraint but said teachers include music in classroom instruction where they can and that restoring elementary music would require new funding or a new hire.
