Amy Pulido, a general-education aide in the Siuslaw district, told the budget committee during public comment that aides are stretched thin and asked members to consider keeping positions in the final budget. "We're kind of already operating at bare minimum with as far as aids go," Pulido said, adding that the classroom aid room had handled 2,693 student visits so far this year.
Pulido described the aide room filling to capacity for brief academic interventions and safety supervision and told the committee that without sufficient aide coverage office staff would be overwhelmed. She said daily responsibilities include supporting 16–64 students across multiple periods and relieving 6–10 teachers from disruptions, and emphasized that reductions would harm both instruction and supervision. The committee heard the testimony and moved into the staff budget presentation that followed; members asked staff to rework the reduction list and return with alternatives at the next meeting.
