Regional housing authority outlines $4.2M rehab award, plans to reopen Section 8 waitlist

Sasha Slavin, executive with the regional housing authority, told the council the authority manages about 600 units and serves more than 1,000 families across Chelan and Douglas counties. "Our mission is to provide safe, affordable, rental homes for families in need of housing assistance," Slavin said, and she described the authority's mix of federal funding sources, including USDA and HUD awards.
Slavin said the authority recently secured $4,200,000 to rehab three older properties and an additional $2.1 million this year to preserve another agricultural property. She said the housing choice voucher waitlist has been closed for several years but noted plans to contact applicants and reopen the list once denials and approvals are processed; she added an administrative plan public hearing is scheduled for September 24 and the plan will be available for review starting August 10.
Council members asked about leveraging funds and frequency of updates; local board member Kayla Benger introduced the delegation and said the authority would like guidance on how often to present to the council. Slavin noted the authority is working on digitizing applications and payment systems to increase access for rural applicants and landlords.
