Board approves HMH math materials for Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Geometry

The Muhlenberg County Board of Education voted to approve an agreement with HMH for high-quality mathematics instructional resources for Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Geometry.

Presenter Stacy Jones described the package as including printed student editions, student journals and practice workbooks, teacher editions, planning and pacing guides, digital teacher and student resources, and comprehensive implementation support including professional learning and coaching. "These resources are designed to strengthen mathematics instruction, promote consistency across classrooms, and improve student achievement," Jones said, and recommended approval: "So I do recommend that the board approve the agreement as presented."

Jones reported the overall cost for the program as $63,367.28, with $11,500 in professional development costs to be paid from Title II funds and the remaining $51,867.28 to come from general fund dollars, according to the recorded presentation.

Board member Miss Yount, speaking as a former educator, praised the inclusion of workbooks and continuing education, saying, "As a former educator, the workbooks, I think, really help the children hone in on their skills and let them self diagnose any issues they're having so they can talk to their instructors about it." After the brief discussion a motion to approve was moved and seconded and the board voted in favor; the chair declared the motion approved in the captured audio.
