Committee members who met with project stakeholders reported consensus that the Vaughan Mall end near Arch and Congress Street best balances public engagement and pedestrian circulation for the proposed LGBTQ "Open Door" installation. Committee member (S3) framed the group’s site recommendation and explained that the chosen area allows people to interact with the work or avoid it if they prefer.
To enable fundraising and allow a fiscal sponsor to form, the committee voted to forward a memo/resolution to City Council recommending the location. "A motion to send a memo resolution to the council to approve of this location," said Committee member (S3) when making the motion; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff will provide background material and draft language so council members have context at the upcoming August discussion.
