Police Chief David Pernice updated the Borough Council that the candidate approved at the previous meeting has not responded to repeated contact attempts and ‘‘appears no longer interested,’’ prompting the department to continue recruitment.
Pernice said there are 32 candidates on the consortium list and that, while he would prefer hiring two part-time officers, only one part-time position has been authorized by Council. He said he will contact the consortium, check with the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams and send letters to candidates. Council agreed to continue searching for one part-time officer.
The report was presented as part of routine department updates; no formal motion to authorize a second officer was taken at the meeting. The Borough’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 16, 2024, when personnel matters could return to the agenda.
