Planning commission discusses derelict-building ordinance after Melendy property cleanup
Summary
Commissioners found no existing derelict/abandoned-building ordinance for Londonderry, reviewed a neighboring Windham example, and noted the Melendy property is reportedly being purchased by the First Baptist Church and has had over 100 tires removed; members agreed to draft language at a gap meeting before presenting to the Selectboard.

Commissioners said they found no local derelict/abandoned-building ordinance on the Town website or at the Town Office and reviewed an example from the neighboring town of Windham. Pamela J. Spaulding reported she consulted with Tom Cavanagh while researching the proposed ordinance and that the Melendy property is in the final stages of purchase by the First Baptist Church and may already be under demolition; she said more than 100 tires had been removed from the site.
Members agreed that an ordinance could provide stronger enforcement than bylaws and decided to sketch a draft at an upcoming "gap" meeting before presenting any proposal to the Selectboard. No ordinance was adopted at the Oct. 27 meeting; the item remains a work-in-progress to be refined prior to Selectboard consideration.
