Board rescinds outdated and duplicate policies, including election policy and duplicates tied to bargaining agreements

Superintendent Jeremy Olsen recommended the board rescind several policies that are either out of alignment with Minnesota law, duplicate other policies, or conflict with negotiated bargaining agreements.
Olsen said the district’s election policy is inconsistent with state statute and therefore should be removed, and he recommended removing a duplicate crisis management policy and policies covering non-group sick and vacation that are already contained in board‑approved terms and conditions or bargaining agreements. “Bargaining groups always supersede all policies,” Olsen said, explaining that policy cannot legally override negotiated contracts. The board moved, seconded and carried the rescissions by voice vote.
