Superintendent Jeremy Olsen explained the conversion to MSBA numbering “so all the policies are found in our board book” and said policy 208 would allow minor technical revisions to be incorporated without a formal reading when changes do not affect substantive implementation. Olsen said policy 423 incorporates state statute language defining grooming in employee‑student relationships, policy 509 incorporates the statutory definition of “habitually truant” into the nonresident enrollment policy, and policy 521 strengthens wording around failing to engage in a process to determine reasonable accommodations for students.
Olsen also noted updates to Internet and technology use (policy 524) that explicitly prohibit using technology to harass individuals by altering video or images — a change Olsen tied to the advent of AI. The board moved and carried the first reading in a single motion; the items remain open for committee input and additional review.
