"I believe that Mount Vernon should be a place where families can build their future," Donovan said, and he framed the year’s work around accountability, integrity and transparency.
Donovan reported the city manages a $93,000,000 budget and about 296 employees and reminded residents that last year he forecast a projected 17% general-fund deficit. "When I did the state of the city here last May, I told everyone about a projected 17% deficit in our general fund," he said. He urged residents to review audited finances and take part in the comprehensive-plan update that will shape housing, infrastructure and zoning over the next 20 years.
