Mission City Council OKs easements for 2026 Johnson Drive reconstruction

The Mission City Council voted to accept and record right-of-way, permanent sidewalk easements, and temporary construction easements needed for the 2026 Johnson Drive street reconstruction project, the council announced at a special meeting.
Laura, a city staff member who presented the item, told the council, "We anticipate filing the petition for condemnation by the end of next week," saying three newly signed parcels were ready for acceptance. The action authorizes the city administrator to execute easement documents and to issue payment to property owners as applicable.
Council member Schmidt moved the motion on behalf of the council, saying the authorization would allow staff to record the easements and proceed with project right-of-way work. Mayor Vaughn called for a second and the council took a roll-call vote; Schmidt, Council member Josie, and Mayor Vaughn voted in favor and the motion carried despite one council member attending by Zoom who was unable to register a vote.
City staff said the easement approvals are being completed to reduce the number of parcels the city expects to include in a potential condemnation petition and to allow the reconstruction project to proceed on schedule. The council adjourned after approving the easements; the meeting video will be posted on the city's website.
