Grandview High band, Mariachi honored after state recognition; students perform for board

"My name is Kale Matheny. I'm the band president, and I play the trumpet, trombone, and euphonium," one student said while introducing the ensemble; another self-identified as Adriana Madera and described her role as "parent chief president and band social media director."
Board members noted that instrumental students’ GPA has averaged above the graduating class average and praised high levels of participation: the speaker said 72 students participated across band and Mariachi, with many also active in athletics and vocational programs. The band leader emphasized that parts of the performance were student-directed this year and that the music program has earned consistent top placements at festivals and assessments.
The board applauded the students’ performance and achievements and thanked family volunteers and staff. The presentation was informational and celebratory; no board action was taken on the music program at the meeting.
