Penfield board suspends contractor brush drop‑off at Gloria Drive, limits site to residents

The Penfield Town Board voted unanimously on July 22 to suspend contractor access to the Gloria Drive brush drop‑off and restrict the site to residents only, effective immediately.

Public Works Director Bob Moore told the board the site had seen a sharp increase in contractor dumping — often using bogus resident addresses — and that the volume has “quadrupled” compared with expected use. Moore said the surge has created a safety and operational problem and will force the town to chip material and close the site for cleanup for roughly a week or more: “we're gonna have to shut it down for, I'm gonna say, probably a week to chip it,” he said. The town attorney framed the action as a rules change by resolution to allow only individual residents to drop off and suspend contractor drop‑off.

Councilmember Lang moved the resolution as verbalized by the town attorney; the motion was seconded and passed on roll call (Supervisor Barry — Aye; Dean — Aye; Getz — Aye; Lang — Aye; Taglich — Aye). Moore said staff will immediately update the town website and place signage at the site to help the employee who mans the facility and to reduce confusion. Board members emphasized they aim to preserve the resident service while discouraging commercial exploitation that shifts disposal costs to taxpayers.
