Public works staff briefed the board on two problem railroad crossings and the state's railroad crossing improvement program that can fund partial repairs. Brandon said the program would not cover all crossings but could help with major work; he described options to split repair costs and seek authorization from supervisors to contribute local funds if necessary.
He told the board the crossing fund could cover about $100,000 and estimated the county's local share would be around $80,000. "The crossing fund that is gonna top our 0.5 will cost a $100,000, and and other 0.5 of the costing by my office will probably cost $80,000," Brandon said. He requested board authorization to plan and pursue the work with the state and reminded supervisors that his office's available cash could carry some of the initial cost.
Supervisors did not object to staff pursuing the program; no formal appropriation was recorded at the meeting, and staff said further planning and formal authorization would follow.
