Mossyrock councilors spent substantial time reviewing the interlocal agreement with the Morton Police Department and expressed concern about the overall cost, salary allocations and the lack of detailed budget information from Morton. Council members said preliminary research indicated the cost of services may be higher than necessary compared with other jurisdictions, and they asked staff to prepare a list of information requests on expenditures, officer allocation, training, equipment and administrative costs.
Councilors also discussed alternatives, including contracting with Lewis County; they reported that county budget cuts and limited availability from the Sheriff make that option unlikely. The Morton contract remains in effect through Dec. 31, 2026, and the city will continue to evaluate service options while seeking more detailed fiscal data from Morton.
