Londonderry commission moves to update expiring Town Plan; public meeting eyed for Sept. 15

The Londonderry Planning Commission on July 28 heard from Matt Bachler of the Windham Regional Planning Commission about options for the town’s expiring Town Plan. The Plan "does require review and address compatibility with surrounding towns," Bachler said, and he committed to delivering background data and maps within about a week to support a limited update.
Commissioners discussed a compressed schedule: if the commission limits edits to updated background sections and holds the first public meeting by Sept. 15, a warning would need to be submitted to the newspaper by Aug. 8. The chair and Windham RPC were reminded that final materials must be uploaded to the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) and that the Select Board must hold a meeting at least 30 days after receiving the Plan.
Commissioners noted the trade-offs of a short timeline: readopting a minimally revised plan could allow the town to "fine tune" remaining elements later, but the minutes record that zoning bylaws cannot be adopted during any lapse while a plan is expired. Matt said maps and data (population, economic, housing) would be provided promptly to meet statutory requirements and help the commission target public outreach.
