Staff: remediation at Ashland railroad district expected to finish construction this month; DEQ testing and easements remain

Commissioners heard an update on remediation activity in the railroad district. Brandon reported that remediation construction work should be concluded by the end of July, but noted additional steps remain: entitlements, recorded easements and DEQ post-cleanup testing. "It should be concluded by the end of July, the full remediation plan," Brandon said.
He also said remediation at a separate Chroman site has not begun and that only preliminary testing has been done there. A commissioner noted train activity is occurring because material is being hauled off the railroad site; staff confirmed the cleanup is tied to preparing the property for sale or disposal. No commission action was requested.
