County Attorney proposes sanitation ordinance change to tie fees to occupancy

County Attorney Ben Willoughby told the Commission that the current sanitation ordinance was charging fees in situations where no garbage can existed and no garbage was being generated. He said the proposed revision would clarify that liability for sanitation fees begins with occupancy, i.e., upon issuance of a certificate of occupancy, and that residents must request a garbage can to receive collection services.
Willoughby said the revised sanitation ordinance will be noticed for a public hearing at the next Commission meeting. No final ordinance was adopted at the May 7 meeting; the item was placed on next month’s agenda for public notice and consideration.
