The Airway Heights City Council unanimously approved two grants on June 15. Staff asked the council to accept a $17,100 Simple Possession Advocacy and Representation grant that will reimburse salary and fringe costs for the city's new public defender, Aaron Nelson. The council approved the grant without discussion.
Council also accepted a Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) bulletproof vest grant for $4,152.79 that will reimburse 50 percent of bulletproof vest purchases for the Airway Heights Police Department. Staff said the grant term begins July 1 and ends June 30 (year 20'8 per the transcript); the council approved acceptance of the grant unanimously.
