Tammy Eveson told the council that the right‑of‑way had been drawn as a possible railroad crossing during subdivision approval but that Union Pacific Railroad’s restrictions and crossing eligibility rules mean a crossing at that location is no longer feasible. Eveson said the right‑of‑way had already been removed from the future land‑use road map and that access to western properties will be provided instead from Parkland extending north and curving west. The release aligns with a prior compromise with the landowner made during subdivision approval.
Councilmember Dave Marriott moved to vacate the right‑of‑way; Councilmember Sara Urry seconded. Roll‑call approval was unanimous (Arrington, Ferry, Marriott, Urry, Wilkinson). The council noted the city still plans to pursue a railroad crossing elsewhere but that the process is constrained by engineering and Union Pacific requirements.
