County approves 2026–27 vehicle inventory tax budget

The county's vehicle inventory tax (VIT) budget for fiscal year 2026–27 was presented and approved at the July 27 meeting.
The tax assessor-collector explained the VIT funds are received monthly from local dealers and deposited to an escrow account; the assessor retains interest on those funds. "This is my vehicle inventory tax monies... the VIT is money we receive monthly from our dealers in Lavaca County," the assessor said. The court moved and approved the 2026–27 VIT budget without recorded objection.
The assessor noted typical uses of VIT funds include office machinery and other assessor-office expenses. The court recorded the approval by motion.
