Freeport staff reports multiple restoration and demolition permits
Summary
City staff reported approved permits for restoration at 1302 West 9th and issued demolition permits at several addresses (522 West 8th; 1519 West 6th; 722 West 4th; 918 West 4th) and described investor interest in a burned home at 420 South Avenue.
The Board of Adjustments received a series of routine updates from city staff on restoration and demolition permits across Freeport.
Staff said permits and required engineering documents were received and approved for restoration work at 1302 West 9th Street. Multiple demolition permits were reported: a demo permit was pulled for 522 West 8th (staff said the family asked for a delayed start and staff extended the start date to Aug. 15), a permit for 1519 West 6th was issued on 07/14 to Verna Material, a demo permit for 722 West 4th was issued on 07/20 to J and M Demolition, and a permit for 918 West 4th was issued on 07/22 to Verna Material.
Staff also described 420 South Avenue, a property that experienced a fire and remains open and vacant; investors have expressed interest but staff said any sale and reversal of a demolition order would be returned to the board for decision. Reggie said staff are working with families and district council members to accommodate hardship timelines where feasible.
