Board approves April finances, accepts donations and adopts ban on unauthorized ransomware payments

The Claymont City School District Board of Education voted May 11 to approve its April 2026 financial report, payment of bills and the minutes from the April 13 regular meeting, and to accept multiple standard Treasurer recommendations.
Treasurer Kim Beckley presented the items and the board carried the motion on a roll call vote. The board also accepted a $5,000 donation from the Tusky VFW and $100 from the Dennison Rotary toward the Claymont High School digital sign. "We accept the $5,000 donation from the Tusky VFW," the minutes record, and the donations were added to the project account.
In a notable policy action, the board adopted a formal resolution that "prohibits unauthorized ransomware payments, no employee, officer, or agent of the District shall authorize, negotiate, or make any ransomware payment or otherwise comply with a ransom demand unless expressly approved by formal resolution of the Board of Education in accordance with Ohio Revised Code 9.64." The resolution was presented as item I under Treasurer recommendations and approved on the same roll call.
Other Treasurer items approved included mid‑year amendments to appropriations and estimated revenues and a renewal with MinuteMen HR for workers' compensation services (the 2027 Group Retrospective Rating Program) in the amount of $2,300.
