Claymont reports drop in chronic absenteeism, highlights student awards and scholarships

At the May 11 meeting the Board received an attendance update showing chronic absenteeism decreased from 28% in fiscal year 2023 to 16.3% in fiscal year 2026, a 3.6 percentage point drop from the previous school year, according to a document presented by Assistant Principal Ida Gorman. The administration also noted recognition for academic and extracurricular programs: Claymont had one national Math180 growth winner and five Read180 winners nationally, Project Lead the Way winners Lane Wells and Kellen Renicker, band recognition, and placements in the County Math Tournament.
The Board acknowledged the Claymont Foundation’s distribution of $229,611 in scholarships to Claymont and Buckeye students, graduating seniors and alumni at the annual banquet. Administrators and principals who provided the written updates were included in the Board packet, and the minutes list principals and program supervisors who reported on honors and tournaments.
