Claymont Board bans unauthorized ransomware payments, approves financial reports and donations

The Claymont City School District Board of Education voted May 11 to prohibit any employee, officer or agent of the district from authorizing or making ransomware payments unless the board first approves such action by formal resolution under Ohio Revised Code 9.64. The Board accepted a $5,000 donation from the Tusky VFW and a $100 donation from the Dennison Rotary for a new Claymont High School digital sign, and approved a renewal with MinuteMen HR for workers’ compensation services for $2,300 for the 2027 Group Retrospective Rating Program. On roll call the Treasurer’s package passed with Mrs. Host, Mrs. Grandison, Ms. Campbell, Mr. Peters and Mrs. Wolf recorded as voting yes.
Treasurer Kim Beckley presented the financial items in the Board packet. The ransomware resolution cites Ohio Revised Code 9.64 as the statutory framework the district used to frame limits on ransom payments. The Board did not schedule additional action on the policy at the meeting; implementation steps were not specified in the minutes.
