Board backs C&I restructure as public raises concerns about position cuts

The Henry Hudson Regional Board discussed and approved revisions to job descriptions for the Director and Supervisor of Curriculum & Instruction as part of a broader realignment intended to regionalize support and increase instructional coaching. Superintendent Dr. Tara Beams presented the plan, saying the realignment will use existing roles and create leadership opportunities to stabilize the position and reduce turnover. Dr. Beams also asked the board to approve additional hours for Dr. William Jacoutot to support C&I work (up to 20 hours, cost not to exceed $1,000).
At public comment, Regina Melnyck questioned "the restructuring of the Curriculum & Instruction position, and questioned the change and why it was happening," and asked about valuation data for Highlands; Jessica Noonan asked about the elimination of the part-time social worker position and how student mental-health cases will be handled. Dr. Beams responded that cases have been redistributed and explained the changes and positions to be filled and posted. Vice President Claire Kozic — reading a statement from President Diane Knox — praised the C&I changes as an improvement that should support student achievement and leadership opportunities for staff.
