Pine Island well brought online; water official says quality improving

Town officials reported progress on local water infrastructure during the July 23 meeting. Water and sewer Deputy Commissioner Matt McPherson said the Pot (Pine) Island well has been turned on "and it's been running good for the past few weeks," adding that the new well is providing improved water quality for the system and can handle roughly four times the district's average capacity.
McPherson explained the two-well operating plan: the new well will handle most demand while the old well will supplement when the system draws down below the new well's cut-on threshold. He told the board the main wastewater facility had a DEC inspection and that operations were within consent-order limits; the town had not yet received the DEC report. McPherson also recognized employee Ryan McPherson for earning a Grade 2A water certification from the New York State Department of Health.
