Selectboard declines winter plowing for closed parks; transfer station bottle shed layout described

Parks Director Liam Elio told the Selectboard the Parks Board voted last year to close parks for winter, and that Little usage at Memorial Park and limited access at Pingree Park led the Parks Board to decline budgeting for a plow contract this season. "The gates to the parks are closed to vehicular traffic," Elio said; he and volunteers have cleared a few parking spaces by hand where needed. Road Foreman Josh Dryden warned that sanding is necessary because slips could create liability for the town, and Chair Tom Cavanagh agreed that, "due to liability concerns, the lots should not be plowed or cleared." The Selectboard concurred the parks will remain closed for the winter and not receive routine plowing.
On a related operations note, Elio described the Transfer Station bottle shed: an enclosed structure for bottle processing and storage and an adjacent open shed where bottles and cans are kept in blue bins. No formal action was taken on Transfer Station operations at the meeting.
